Cattail Cove State Park Campground Arizona

Cattail Cove State Park Overview

Cattail Cove State Park 058

Cattail Cove State Park campground has 61 (electric & water hookup) campsites set in a beautiful cove along the shores of Lake Havasu. The campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 60 feet). There are also 32 primitive boat-in campsites available with picnic tables, a stand-up BBQ and access to vault toilets. All boat-in campsites are first-come, first-served.

Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($) and a dump station. There’s also  a day-use/beach area, boat ramp, amphitheater, visitor center/park store and hiking trails. Cell service is good.

Trees do provide nice shade to most campsites. Each campsite also has electric/water hookups, a table, fire ring and grill. Our favorite campsites are 4, 5, 6 and 53.

  1. MM in Havasu says:

After driving here to visit with friends who were camping at this location, we spoke with the park ranger/gate attendant about veterans discount and she told me that the “veteran” designation on my drivers’ license wasn’t good enough and I had to show a DD214 which is at my home, not in my vehicle, to get a 50% discount. This person then proceeded to argue with me about my driver’s license and that I had to show a copy of the discharge form(which was already done when I got the veterans designation on my AZ driver’s license when I renewed it and verifies that I am a veteran), and conversation went downhill from there. I was told that I treat people badly, and she(the park ranger)got treated that way herself because she treated me poorly at best. I then requested to see something in writing to this effect and she was not able to produce anything, so I told her I did not believe her and who was her supervisor. She said she was the supervisor and I asked who she reported to and what was their phone number/email, to which she responded with one of that person’s business cards given to me. I told her she was out of line in dealing with the public and that this matter will be taken up with the park’s manager(who she allegedly reports to), and she then refused to speak with me any further after she kept talking over me when I was attempting to carry on a discussion with her about this and had to physically tell her to shut up so I could finish my statement.
I was then handed over to a worker drone there who was even worse by repeating “sorry about that”, and “I understand”, cliche responses to a customer’s grievances. We ended up paying the full $15 to stay there for 3 hours and I will never ever set foot in another AZ state park ever again after dealing this level of BS.
Don’t go here. You will be treated like substandard citizenry by the state employees that work at this location. Pretty shoddy treatment of me as a veteran too.

  2. Jeanette says:

This place is great! clean, friendly staff/rangers and volunteers. We have stayed here 3 times- October-November 2022. There were some trees taken down after a storm and a hiking trail and pet area a little washed out. But they are working on all areas affected making them nice again. Boat ramp, Kayak and SUP rentals available. programs and get togethers take place at the small amphitheater area near the gardens. Throughout the campground are signs near trees and other plants with types/info for learning (lemon, lime and grapefruit trees included!) Pull throughs and back ins for small to large rigs. There is a beach area and the sunsets are amazing! Birds spotted: Belted Kingfisher, Red Tail hawk, coopers hawk, ducks, American coot, and we heard an owl at night. Racoons or something are known to visit campsites at night and will get into trash left outside!
