Zion National Park Utah

Zion National Park Overview

Zion National Park is Utah’s first National Park and offers encompasses 229 square miles of spectacular scenery. You’ll see massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink and red, creeks, rivers, valleys, slot canyons and an abundance of wildlife. Outdoor recreation within the park includes backpacking, camping, hiking, biking, river rafting, picnicking, climbing, slot canyon exploration, canyoneering, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. The town of Springdale also has many shops and restaurants to enjoy.

South Campground

South Campground in Zion National Park has 117 campsites and is located is situated along the Virgin River about 1/2 mile from the south entrance of the park. There are also 4 group sites available (7-15 people). The single family campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers and tents.  The campground has a dump station, drinking water, and restrooms with flush toilets.  Each campsites has a table, fire ring and grill. Laundry, groceries, and gas are all available within one mile of the campground. South Campground takes reservations from mid March through November and generally sell out. There are no RV hookups.

 Watchman Campground

Watchman Campground in Zion National Park has 189 campsites (90 with electric hookups) located on a bench above North Fork Virgin River about 1/2 mile north of Springdale and just south of the South Campground.  The campground has 5 loops (A-F). Loop F campsites are walk-in, tent only.  There also 7 group campsites (loop E). Most campsites also have nice shade from large Cottonwood trees. Each campsite (except the walk-in sites) has a table, fire ring and grate. The walk-in sites have a table, food storage locker and shade structure.

Lava Point Campground

Lava Point Campground has 6 primitive campsites in a beautiful and secluded area of Zion National Park. The campground is usually open early May through September and is about 1 hour 20 minutes to drive to the South Entrance of Zion Canyon.

Campsites must be reserved in advance and are on a 2-week rolling window. Campground amenities include vault toilets and trash cans. Water is not available. Campsites are for tent camping and vehicles longer than 19 feet are not permitted on the road to the campground.
